Bee-utiful QAL {Block 9 - Bee Fruitful}
NOTE: This quilt-a-long has wrapped up. If you are looking for the full set of embroidery patterns and quilt assembly instructions, please visit the final post {here}.
When I was designing these blocks, I ultimately tried to think of places where bees would naturally be found. My husband suggested a watermelon. I'm so happy that this block made it into my quilt.
Can you think of anything more fitting as part of a summer sewing camp than a slice of watermelon on a picnic blanket?
There is no video for this block, but I do want to show you a few close-ups of the stitching on the picnic blanket.
I chose to use a loosely-spaced satin stitch to fill in the blocks of the picnic blanket. It adds a nice textural element, saves on floss (I think I went through more than one skein of black floss on this block alone), and gives the appearance that the blanket is woven. Feel free to stitch however you like, but I just wanted to share my approach. You can download block 9 {Bee Fruitful} by clicking {here}.
As always, feel free to share on social media with the hashtags #beefruitful, #beeutifulQAL, and #summersewingcamp. I'm loving all the gorgeous blocks I'm seeing! Keep up the good work!
Happy stitching!
